AGM 2025 Q&A

Some questions and answers following CAMBA's Annual General Meeting

Thank you to everyone who attended our 2025 AGM on Friday, May 23. Your time, effort, and commitment to CAMBA’s mission – to build, maintain, and advocate for trails – are deeply appreciated. This work isn’t always straightforward, and challenges inevitably arise. But we are listening, learning, and evolving, driven by our shared dedication to the trail community.

Each of us – members, volunteers, and staff – has a role in shaping a community that values and thrives on a diverse and sustainable trail network. Whether you’re an experienced rider, joining a trail night, exploring the trails for the first time, attending a Board or Committee meeting, expressing interest in a leadership position, or simply sharing feedback, your voice matters.

Questions that were raised:

How is the Board Member slate selected?

Just as with our staff positions, we welcome expressions of interest or applications from anyone eager to work with CAMBA. If you’re interested, email contact@camba.ca or look at our Instagram bio, where we will be adding an Expression of Interest link. Additionally, we’ll soon be sharing a more detailed board nomination process on our website. Our website is in the process of being overhauled, so it will be updated in the coming weeks.

Bylaw section 6.1.4 Except for Directors nominated by the Board, all nominations for Director shall be provided to the Board no less than forty five (45) days prior to the AGM, and no nominations from the floor of the AGM shall be permitted.

Our AGM happens annually in May. In January 2026, we will send out a call for Expressions of Interest as a reminder, and we will do this every year from now on. We have heard that this process needs to be more transparent to provide space for new ideas, tactics, and energy.

The Bylaws, current as of May 23, will also be updated on our website.

Members are always welcome to attend board meetings. If you’d like to join us, please reach out, and we’ll send you a calendar invite. Our meetings are typically held on the third Monday of each month, and we’ll be adding these dates to our public events calendar. We encourage you to attend meetings and get involved firsthand. Your participation helps our community and ensures that we continue to grow together.

How can members better support our advocacy efforts?

  • Provide feedback
We heard the need to request feedback more often. Expect to see short, simple polls from us, starting now. Instead of just the biannual 20-minute surveys, we will keep you abreast of important issues affecting our trail community as they arise and ask for your input often.
  • Respond to CATS
We will let you know as soon as the Canmore Area Trails Strategy (CATS) draft is released for Stage 5 Public Engagement by the Province of Alberta. We will also provide a high level summary, as we know reviewing 100 pages in detail is not feasible for everyone. We encourage you to take the time you need to make informed comments when completing the CATS survey. Please reach out to us with questions.
  • Write a letter
From time to time, we encounter issues that require strong advocacy, like our efforts with the Province of Alberta to allow grooming of the High Rockies Trail with the snow dog for winter fat biking. When these arise, your voice makes a difference. If you’re passionate about these initiatives, we encourage you to take action when we share updates and call for membership support.
  • Reach out
Our team wants to hear from you, and we will make the time. Send us an email with anything you’d like to bring to our attention.

Specific Trail Updates and the 2025 Work Plan

At the AGM, we had planned to provide a high-level overview of the 2025 Work Plan and share a link to the full, detailed plan, as we have in previous years. However, due to extended discussions on only a few trails, the meeting ran significantly over time. As a result, we recognize that many other trails didn’t receive enough time or the level of detail they deserved.

The 2025 work plan includes the following trails listed below along with maintenance and improvements to trails on TSMV and Town of Canmore land.
